  1. To Jim, just joined. Some time ago I did a comprehensive study of all phases of going off the grid. The article, published by Nick Rosen was entitled “Payback Time”. take a look at it, if you truly want to go properly off the grid then get those items. you will have a 20 year life free of major hassles provided you look after the batteries. I am going to write an article on that very subject soon.

  2. Just registered
Been off the grid for three years in a land yacht
    on a beach in Hawaii
Work from my van & use a 270w solar panel for power
No mortgage, no rent just parking regulations
    Namaste

  3. I’m retired and unable to develop this ideal prepper paradise. Although 160 acres probably best for a single family because of limited septic. Too valuable to expect someone (unless they are really rich) to simply buy this so there will have to be an “arrangement” made where the “right people” partner with me to build it as their project. It will have to be a plan where I get my money eventually but I realize this will take a partnership… my land and your energy. Send me your ideas… I’ll select the one that best suits my “soul”. Not that I’m overly that way but just that this is a big deal for me… I’ve wanted to develop this piece for the last 3o years but life laughed at that and we adopted 3 kids after I retired so all my energies have been spent doing that. Here’s your chance!

  4. hello fellow off the grid lovers,
I am new here and to wanting to move on from my lifestyle of living in the city of London UK all my life for a better one. Would really appreciate it.. Thank you. Peace & wisdom. :)

  5. New to this web site I am qualified for desert survival situations and have lived of the Phoenix Arizona dessert surviving six months viewing all the sights walking over 130 miles. I’m looking to get off-grid and do it again with someone with experience backpacking or I was even thinking about horse back. Let me know if anyone’s interested because I am.

  6. We are in Colorado springs looking for like minded people to live in a self sustained community. Or to find one and to contribute. We gave up our house and sold everything moved in our rv and are now here in co springs. We have 4kiddos that we homeschool. Both of us grew up on farms and are no strangers to hard work. I have a medical background and my husband is currently doing directional drilling but he welds, structural building, has cdl, anything handyman type he can do it. We both fish hunt, garden, and like to build what we need out of what we have. We are saving like crazy for some land .. if there are other families around here who desire the same email me. Laurasrice86@gmail.com, we are a strong family and honest ..we have what it takes and looking for the same

  8. Hi
My name is Kimberly. I am currently looking for woman to share the dream of teaching others to live off-grid. This would entail research and living all over the US (starting in Florida) and teaching others the tools in which to live off-grid successfully. If you have an interest and have the freedom to live anywhere please contact me.

  10. Hello everyone, New to this site and very happy i found it. Im 35yr En/French Canadian Male and Im looking to leave behind the chains of what everyone calls life. I have not had what you would call an easy go in my life and as of lately i have had enough time alone to look at myself and life and i can see im not happy trying to keep up with the rat race for what. everyone today is so worried about nothing that really seems to matter about anything its so sad and disappointing I know i was like that for a time….The world is getting further away from whats important and i want to be ready and away from it all. Im not saying i want to live in a tent 1000 miles from a store but I would be very interested in joining or help to build an off the grid community/village of sorts. Im non religious but not aganist any sort just have my own beliefs. My background is alot of computer tech work…i also work good with my hands building, have done lots of hard labour work not shy of a long day. I do have some outdoors exp i spent a Northren Canadian winter in a ice hut and eat alot of fish :)
but was by far not the right set up for a long period of time. I hope to find this I know its/you are out there too. This is not a decision i made over night its been years in mind and lately trying to do as much research as i can thats how i came across this site. I dont have much when it comes to money which has been hard and is something else that would feel great to lose that chain. There is much more to talk about this is my email anon5419@hushmail.com they say hope so i hope the right eyes find this message. Enjoy life..learn from it…less is more. Thanks.

  11. Hi everyone,
I am new to this also, but I am looking forward to learning and putting into action. I have land in Tennessee and plan on moving there in March 2014 with my rv, meanwhile I am trying to collect all the data I can and go about doing this in the cheapest manner possible. I am just not sure about the wind vs solar and which is more feasible in my area. Does anyone have any info on the subject matter?
Thank you all for information, everyone has been very inspiring. :)

  12. i am looking for a like minded christian couple or single bloke here in Queensland/Brisbane/Australia that would be interested in my dream of a refuge for themselves and those that will go through the great tribulation that is coming.

  13. Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself …. Lived off-grid 75% of the time for 10 years with the Mountain men quite a few years have gone by and cant remember why I left … caught up in Corporate America I do own a farm in Texas but my family wants nothing to with the life style change ….

  14. Hi! I am also new to this site. I joined hoping to gain more information and ideas of how to escape the rat race, to stop living the American Dream and start living my own dream! Getting completely off the grid seems hard to do because the Government still needs a cut of everything we have, property taxes etc… Living in Michigan there are plenty of places that offer excellent opportunities to make our dreams a reality but everything takes money! So where do we begin? How do we make this a reality?? Is it easier to live off the grid in a group or as individuals? I would love to hear how others have made it happen for them.

  15. hi new to the site!!!should be interesting and informative and hope to absorb as much of it i can.as i read about others who want to get off they usually want to buy land and live miles away from others and towns..its kinda funny that they don’t look at where they are and learn how to use what they have around them..even appartment living can be used as with living in residential
properties.from just growing your own an dehydrating to saving water and prepping for the dark days..I tell kids drop the cell and open your eyes to whats around you..and ya might survive…just a thought……

  16. Hard Headed—-
I have some info for you regarding land. Cheap. Give me a shout. I am also looking into land with the same intent. Still saving my money to buy and build.

  17. My family has officially gone off the grind. We are Living in an RV and are learning very quickly how to live Green. We have started to filter our on drinking Water. Make homemade Soaps, Shampoos and so forth. We are staying at camp Free grounds, but we plan to head north adn then south for the winter. We may need some work along the way. We would love to hear about others adventures and innovations that work, as we look for land we can call home and live Free and Green.

  18. We live in a small rural village in the mountains of Veracruz, Mexico where we retired seven years ago. We are in the process on installing a stand-alone PV system. We share our little house with five dogs and four cats. Our town of 600 souls is a very friendly and informal place with cows and burros and chickens and dogs far outnumbering our kind. We have taken approximately 13,000 photographs and video clips since coming to Mexico. There have made many videos of what life is like here for us – see our channel on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/user/solarhaven2. Look for the playlist called “Living in a small village”. We run a volunteer program devoted to sustainability and helping the disadvantaged in our community… see mexico.solarhaven.org for more information.

  19. I am trained in a lot of survival skills I learned. all types. Desert, water, mountain, cold weather, tropical. If you are interested. let me know.

  20. Also new to this, however this IS NOT a “New idea” for me. I am disabled, so going COMPLETELY off the grid would be almost impossible because I can not do “the work required” to maintain a “farm”! I am however actively trying to eliminate chemicals in my environment including food, water, cleaning and personal products! I will be having a small garden soon, and will be canning and prepping because of the economy. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas!

  21. We are offering our off-grid homestead as a lease with option to buy, if anyone is interested. I have posted on the classifieds on this site. It is in Concho, AZ. $1200.00 per month.

  22. I am new to this website, but by no stretch of the imagination new to the concepts of living off the grid as some call it, self-sufficiency as others conclude, and to tell the truth, I really do not know why I decided to speak up.

Nevertheless, in my time I have met many either attempting to pull away from the mainstream and others living what I refer to as a life filled with dualities, some have cursed my views and way of life while others get a dreamy look in the eyes.

Granted there are all sorts of techno-jarnigan that describes this relatively young and on the rise way of life and living, and now having several homes under my belt, some think living has to be just a line or bar above caveman, when in reality, and if one uses the common sense God gave them, one’s own unusual accommodations as well as the materials used to construct it can make for some pretty spectacular living spaces, and lucrative as well, with my last small fully functional farm selling for nearly $200,000, as the fellow saw it and just could not live without it.

I guess one thing I try to pass along to those looking for “The Free Life”, is by no stretch of the imagination is living free, but it can be extremely cheap and still deliver the many comforts that all home owners seek.

While maybe some sort of rudimentary latrine was required at first as well as water delivery system, once my digs were completed, running water, lights, sewer system, and even internet and telephone.

Currently I live not to far from Houston, just northeast to be exact, my monthly living expenses for a family of four runs about $200 per month, $89 of this is the land note, but civilization is slowly encroaching upon me and it is time to find more suitable location to exist.
So I guess it could be said that I come in search of unrestricted property, and if you know of some, give me a shout.

Looking for no more than five acres, and I am also in search of PRODUCTIVE conversation with like minded people, as me nor anyone in my family is one of those doomsdayers or full out para-military survivalist, just folks that are a plain as the dirt we work.

So there it is, do with or take from it what you will.

  23. Hello, I just sound this site through a friend. I am looking to buy a fairly remote bit of property and develop it into a small off-grid permaculture food forest. I am interested in all alternative energy technology. I look forward to exploring this site an interacting with all of you.

  24. please read my views and values and see if we can create a better life together, To love and live for each other. My wife and I want start a family in a place where people value these things. Not what society say we should value to be socially excepted. We can create a better generation and world together.
