Are you sure Justjen?
I was under the impression that you could only live on your own land without planning permission for a total of 28 in a year
I could be wrong
I think traduck makes a valid point with ref to diy wind turbine plans.
I would be cool if we could settle on a set of plans and several of us have a go at building it and discuss the process on the forum.
Could be fun
Which plans should we choose
As a follow on to this topic I have been searching the interweb for plans to build a simple wind turbine and I keep coming across these type of websites.
Are any of these plans any good? Or are they regurgitated information that can be found for free on the web?
I am always cautious of these mini websites that claim so much for so little
Has anyone ever bought a set of these plans
Any info would be much appreciated
How about building a geared, hand cranked Juicer
Now that would be cool
We found it very difficult to find an insurer for our van because we had converted it ourselves but in the end we went with adrian flux

I’m sure there are many companies who will do what you suggest however a lot of people who want to be off grid do so partly to be self reliant and but implementing their own systems they will be able to maintain them also.
Another thing is the cost.
Most people slowly go over to off grid living spreading the cost over many years.
If you have enough money you can pay people to do anything
Welcome to the forum
Do you live in the van full time?
I like the look of the still stoked web site
I am an old skater myself
Are you anything to do with still stoked?
I would love to have a wood burner in the van but we don’t really have the room at the moment but I am thinking of adding another four feet to the length of the van so who knows.
Welcome to the forum
That is a fantastic offer. Perhaps we should have a yearly off grid get together and you can teach us some skills
I am thinking of installing some 12 volt fans (computer fans) in the bed base connected to a small solar panel so they only come on in the daylight. These should keep the bed nice and ventilated.
As for heating, when we are near electricity we have a small halogen heater and when we are moving we have a diesel night heater like they have in boats and trucks.
I’m not sure what you are asking but just because you wish to disconnect from the electricity, gas and water services doesn’t mean you can’t visit the Doctors or go to the Chemists.
We don’t have an address where we live but we use a family member as a postal address.
We also run a business so a lot of our post goes to there.
Not having an address can sometimes cause problems to your credit rating but you may have to live with it.
Do you have a website we can look at
I live in a fully insulated van but we get a lot of condensation under the bed.
I have raised the mattress up on slats with a 2″ air gap but it still gets wet under there.
We have taken to putting baking tin with moisture crystals to suck up some of the water but I could do with a better solution really
Move into a shed in the back garden and start growing some veg.
Add some batteries and a small wind generator and/or some solar panels as and when you can afford them and you will be well on your way to off the grid life but with the security of knowing your parents are not far away
