What’s it like living on a yacht?

boat living, rv living, mobile living, satellite phoneInteresting discussion on the Solar investment chatroom about living on a 40 foot +/- yacht.

“I see them outside my office window all day and it seems like a relaxing life,” says Alloy Boy. “Are they really too small to live(single) comfortably and how fast do they depreciate? A quick seach revealed that a 40 footer cost more or less the same as a condo or small house, but what are the upsides of living on a boat(other than being mobile)?”

Naked and afraid on the island from hell

There is a moment on the Discovery Channel’s new reality show, “Naked and Afraid,” when Alison Teal and the survivalist ex-Marine she was paired with see their camera crew in a whole new light.

Teal, a globe-trotting filmmaker from South Kona, and L.A. bodyguard Jonathan Klay were struggling. The show drops participants in far-flung locations — in this case the Maldives — for a 21-day survival test without food, water or clothing. When it gets that rugged, nudity ceases to be a concern, replaced by the urgent need to find food.

Mother calls her son in missing

DanielandSusanneLandgrebeThe mother of a 20-year-old from Newton Iowa who went on a cross-country trek to gather fodder for an “off-the grid book” has reported her son is missing.

Noted beautician, Susanne Landgrebe says she last heard from her son, Daniel, on June 24.

“In Cheyenne, Wyoming, they ran into this Freight Train Riders of America gang. If you Google anything about them, they’re like a horrible, violent gang that are well-known. I’d never heard of them, but they’re horrible,” Landgrebe says. “…Daniel got a knife pulled on him for getting in a freight car where one of the guys was in.”

Movie The East – interview with Director

Web site Female First captured an interview with Zal Batmanglij Director’s of The East (being released in the UK this week).

The East is about a young woman who works for a private intelligence firm. She is conservative and religious and she remakes herself as the exact opposite in a bid to infiltrate a group of anarchists who are committing direct actions against corporations, is how Zal sums up the plot.

– You wrote and directed – so where did the idea for the film start?

I co-wrote it with the leading lady Brit Marling and for us it started with the idea that we were seeing a lot of generational frustrations. I think our generation felt frustrated in a way that was that was unique and palpable and we wanted to capture that.

We thought the idea of a person from the corporate space and people from living off the grid that naturally comprised two extremes of the generation.

‘The East’ – movie premieres

The EastX Men star Ellen Page is co-star opposite Arbitrage actress Brit Marling in new espionage thriller The East, which was produced and co-written by 29-year-old Brit.
Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie, which also stars True Blood hunk Alexander Skarsgard, Ellen said The East, focuses on an anarchist group known for executing covert attacks on major corporations. “These issues were something I was already interested in. The ethical murkiness is very compelling because that is what life is right now, it’s hard to know how to be alive, how to make the right choices when we see the injustice in the world and the atrocities committed by corporations in the name of profit,” she said.
