Extinction Rebellion founder says we must topple the political elites

The driving force behind Extinction Rebellion has said the group will shortly announce a co-ordinated global action in 40 countries.
“There is going to be a rebellion in America this Autumn,” Roger Hallam told us in an extended video interview from his new office in London, where he started work less than a week ago.

Hallam, co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, gave a one-hour interview explaining why XR was launched, talking about his own background and how XR will achieve its goal of zero carbon in ten years.
“As far as I’m concerned, the political class has to be removed from power,” he said as he sipped water and joked about the impact XR is having on the nations’ leaders. “At least they think they have to co-opt us,” he said.
“From the get-go you knew we were onto some major political explosion. Now we’re on the cusp. On Monday or Tuesday the UK is going to declare a rebellion episode…against the British government.”

The new rebellion will be another series of stoppages across major towns and cities. “We’re looking at broadly repeating what we did in April, but on a far bigger scale. This is big. This isn’t some XR hippie routine.”

Hallam said he already had support from Trade Unions, Gay groups, Christians and many other Eco-organisations and others.

Extinction Rebellion is well on the way to becoming a global phenomenon, now in 40 countries and expanding every day. Millions are pouring into their coffers, including from the band Radiohead and from tech millionaires as well as thousands of small contributions. Next week the central steering group will begin dispersing that money to the local groups worldwide. Living off-grid, and campaigning for others to do so, is just one way to make your contribution to the future security of the planet. Another way is to join the XR actions in your local area. In a long interview with Nick Rosen, editor of Off-Grid.net Hallam declared “the political class are gonna do everything apart from anything. As far as I am concerned they have to be removed from power.”…

Liberals Prep for Trump Presidency – even have own Gun Club

Time was, Preppers tended to be right-wingers concerned about the coming social collapse, but since President Trump was elected, it’s left wing liberals who have begun hoarding food and seeking out futureproof shelters.

Prepping or survivalism already has tens of thousands of individual followers or groups actively preparing for emergencies. This movement even warranted a reality series titled “Doomsday Preppers” which aired on National Geographic Channel in 2012.

With a Trump administration now on the horizon, previous non-preppers have begun looking at their earthquake and backpacking gear in a new way – the beginnings of a survival kit. This was the case for San Francisco based Liberal Jim Ray. He told Buzzfeed, “The world in general feels more tumultuous than it did, in a lot of ways. For liberally minded people, the election made that a reality in a way that it wasn’t before.”

Other Liberals are moving beyond simply stocking up their backpacking kit, adding foreign visas and unregistered vehicles to their prepping checklist, according to the Buzzfeed article.

Although left wingers are generally against stocking up on ammunition and guns, The Liberal Gun Club has seen an increase in paying members over the past few months. This group provides a voice for gun-owning liberals, breaking the stereotype of only right wing enthusiasts owning guns and ammunition. Not only this, but gun transactions reached a record high on November 25th shortly after the election result, according to The Trace. Although this could be due to stockists lowering prices to increase their sales.

Liberal Prepper Facebook groups have also begun growing in popularity and number. One group has nearly 1,000 members on the social media site.

On the other hand, some Conservative preppers have relaxed their prepping since the election. But other right wingers are cautioning against this, regardless of political opinion or viewpoint, a new president isn’t going to prevent a natural disaster or grid power outage. Therefore, prepping is still an important and vital part of many peoples’ lives. Only now, preppers can no longer be described as predominantly right wing, President Trump has seen to that.…

An Alliance and A Campaign

wecansolveitlogo-5092746

Since it’s a political year, not that every year isn’t one, we looked around to see who is taking advantage of our politticans being a little more open to listening to going green, being self-sufficient, and/or environmental issues. So of course we checked out the We Can Solve It website.

The We Can Solve It campaign is a project of the Allliance for Climate Protection. The Alliance single purpose is to get the pulic involved and active in solving the climate crisis we are facing. Yes this is the foundation that Former Vice President Al Gore started in 2006. That is not a reason to like or dislike this campaign/organization but it helps to have a big name attached ask any foundation that has celeberties as part of their organization. The idea behind this website looks like a good one. A place to find events, list or (as we did) start groups, blog about your experience or read someone’s blog, and get recent news from the organization.

The organization believes that since public awareness of the climate changes is high then so should the understanding that solutions are needed too. Unfortunately for those of us in the USA climate change (or what ever you wish to call it) has become so entrenched in people political views that getting past the politics and dealing with the reality that our climate is changing, no matter the how or why. Idealogy and sterotypes are rampt in America’s culture and that can be a good thing, who doesn’t love apple pie, but when dealing with reality it doesn’t leave much room for preconcieved ideas. Helping people beak down partisan lines and changing the issue from being politics as usual is a main goal or them.

“What has consistently been missing, however, is a massive and sustained national effort to catalyze a broad culture shift on the issue, raising the climate crisis out of a partisan framework and unlocking the potential for real solutions. Our leaders will take the bold actions needed to solve the climate crisis only when the American people demand that change.” from The Alliance for Climate Protection and the We Campaign: Fact Sheet

joinwecan-5129983If they can accomplish their goals then maybe dealing with the changes in our climate will no longer be a “who/what is at fault” but a “how to deal with it”. So with that thought we added a group to their site called “Off-Grid USA” and we are looking into putting together a real world club that can be a place for those of us going off the grid, green or already there to get together to discuss, share, and help one another.

Interestingly enough listening to the congressional committee on Climate Change and Alternate Energy (may not be the official name) on Cspan the other day it was noticed that the most opening statements were not about …
