Hi everyone,

I’m new to the idea of living off-grid. The more I consider this way of life makes more sense in terms of being self sufficient and free from current energy suppliers.

The option of living disconnected from the grid is not widely publicised, there is a lot to learn about the practicalities of becoming an off-gridder. I would appreciate any advice you can give to someone in my position just starting out.

I am looking to find a place in Essex, UK. Ideally I am looking for a plot for a sustainable build. It would also be really great to hear from anyone here already located in the county with a similar background who can offer their valuable insight into dealing with planning issues etc.

It’s great to be part of this group, I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
