Soaring electricity prices and fear of recurrent blackouts are pushing liberal New Yorkers to switch to solar power.

From Brooklyn to the Bronx, solar panels are mushrooming on the roofs of New York. 30-something couples, retired university professors, writers, those in search of prestige or peace of mind — New Yorkers are ready to pay for solar panels on their houses. Some consider it an investment, like redoing a bathroom, that will add value to their property in the future. Most do it because they want to save money on electricity  solar panels can decrease their bills of as much as 75%. All like the satisfaction solar power gives them. They feel independent and responsible, doing their bit to end energy-related violence in the Middle East and to reduce global warming.
