As the end of summer slides past us, the days are getting shorter and cooler. Our rainy season has all but ended, the last few days has been almost dreamy, with low hanging clouds and ground fog rolling through, cool and damp, the smell of wood smoke in the air from the first warming fires of the season tickle my nose, we settle into the end of our 7th year living off grid, this December will start our 8th year, time has flown by so quickly, sometimes I have a hard time remembering my life before moving off grid, and that is just fine with me.
I have always had a strong belief system, one of the things I fully believe in is we are in more control of our lives than we realize, of course there are always circumstances that have to be dealt with, they don’t always have to be negative. Your thoughts have a great influence over your life and circumstances, when you think of your life, are you thinking in the negative or in the positive? It’s all too easy to live with and in negative thoughts, think about the most negative person you know, are they happy? Are they living well? Do good or bad things seem to happen to them? Hopefully that isn’t you.
If you could have any wish, live any dream, what would it be? Since you are here, I assume you are wanting to live off grid, or in a more independent manner, are you living that dream now? If not, what is stopping you? If you look at very successful people (and by success, I don’t necessarily mean how large their bank account is…), very successful people have goals, positive ones and they let nothing stop them from reaching those goals, they decide what they want and they go for it with everything in their being.
Now let’s change one word there, from successful to happy, when I say happy, I’m really saying contented, now there’s a state of mind to strive for, how many of you are truly contented?
I have written about this before, but it’s a great exercise, take a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle from top to bottom, now on one side, write out your goals, wishes and dreams. It can be as long as you want it to be, write down everything you can think of. Now look at what you wrote, is it written in the negative? If so, go to the other side of the line and rewrite your wish in a positive manner, for example, if you wrote:
“I don’t want to be poor” or “I don’t want to be sick”
You could write: “I want to be wealthy” or “I want to be healthy”
Do that for all the goals, dreams and wishes you wrote.
Now let’s look at your list, how many things are money related vs how many can be achieved with little or no money involved? Hopefully you have written at least a few things that aren’t money dependent. One of my wishes is to walk more often, that is free free free, well except for the time it takes, it will cost me zero dollars to do, that’s an easy one to do.
Your list is shaping up now, so let’s take this one step further, get another piece of paper, rewrite those goals, dreams and wishes in the NOW, for example, if you wrote:
“I want to be healthy”
rewrite it as if it has already happened, as if it is happening NOW
“I am healthy”
Now we are getting somewhere, you might not feel like it’s true right now, but if you tell the universe that you ARE something instead of you WANT to be something, then it’s much more likely to happen, would you rather BE something than WANTING TO BE something? One of the mantras I came up with when I was a trainer at Curves (a gym for women) was this:
I am happy
I am healthy
I have everything I need
I am happy
I am healthy
I have everything I want
I gave this out to all my ladies as a printout, I wanted them to tape this everywhere they would see it during the day, I wanted them to SEE this, I wanted them to SAY this multiple times a day, \\\\out loud////, even if it didn’t feel true NOW, it would become true for them, it would set them up with more positive mental outlooks that would translate into better health and a better life.
If you can do this for yourself, for your future and for your now, you will be more likely to get to live your dream, if it could happen to me, it can happen for anyone. :)
