[before_listing images= youtube=null] I am a 22 year old male who lives in eastern Massachusetts who wants to move off the grid. Although the modern world has given us a lot of technology I don’t think that people are any happier then they were in the past. In fact, I believe that putting in some hard work and effort actually makes people happy. In my opinion, true happiness is being self-sustainable and not having many material possession. True happiness to me is relying on myself or others that have similar views and not expecting the government to give me a handout. I want to grow my own crops, collect my own water, and I want to live in a small house with just the basics. I believe that the focus of life should be on love and happiness and not money. Many people are controlled by the media and material possessions these days, but not everyone. I am looking for people who feel the same way, and I can tell there are a lot of you out there because of this site. If I had the chance I would move off the grid today. I have made some mistakes though such as taking out loans for college that I have to repay. If you are willing to work with me or help me with this one issue I am willing to offer a lifetime of hard labor and work as well as my friendship. I hope to hear from some of your soon. Hi Matt,
We are located in west central NH, close enough for you to visit and ease your way in if you are interested. We have land and have started to put together a little farm of sorts. We also have the loan/money issues so I completely understand your situation. It means things go a lot slower than we’d like because we have to work off site to cover bills but we are slowly making it work. Get back to me if you’d like to chat or visit.

Matt you need to just pack your bags and go do it. Might not ever happen if you wait until your student loans are paid off. No one is going to take your birthday or first born child over student loans. You might not believe it now but having bad credit might keep you out of trouble later on. It is much to easy to borrow money or get a credit card and get yourself further into debt tying you even more to the system you are trying to escape.
Pack your bags and head to Alaska. Still time to build a small cabin and get your firewood in before winter. If you want to see what living off grid is like come on up. You can help me with my projects and I will keep you from starving.

Put an ad on Craigslist last year offering offgrid experience for help and received so much interest that i lost track of how many people contacted me. Got lucky with a guy who didn’t have lots of experience but was willing to learn. He got a job offer up in the oil fields late in the fall so went to make some money for getting his own place. Tossed the ad in again this spring and was once again run over by the amount of people wanting to get offgrid or come to Alaska. One gal just left who was only able to come up for 3 weeks. She is working extra jobs and plans on coming back in the future to live in Alaska. Keep in mind that most offgrid living does mean using an outhouse, carrying your water, cutting and heating with wood, little power available and possibly no one else living around you for miles.
Contact me if any of that sounds like fun.
