[before_listing images= youtube=null] Hey, my name’s TJ and I live in Upstate NY. I’m a 21 year-old man looking to start or join an off-the-grid community/homestead with kind, honest people. I’m discouraged with the selfish, greedy state of consumerist living that unfortunately we as a society find ourselves in. I wholeheartedly believe in the DIY ethos and the reward of self-sufficiency and hard work. I’m not much of a religious person, but I have no problems with people who are- as long as they reciprocate the same respect in my beliefs as I do in theirs. I’m an avid angler with experience in many forms of fishing (rod/angling, handline fishing, net, and noodling) and have experience in horticulture. I’ve been composting and growing veggies for over 10 years, with confidence in helping to sow larger scale gardens. I have the utmost respect for nature and animals, only ever hunting twice in my life strictly for sustenance and never for sport. Raising livestock for food and resources is more humane than the torment animals go through in factory farms, so I’m down to raise/care for animals. I have some minor skills in carpentry, more-so in wood crafting than large-scale building. I’m a very open-minded person however I have no tolerance for racism, xenophobia, sexism, or any form of bigotry. I’m not a druggie and never was much of a drinker, but I’m okay with both to an extent; the extent being as long as it doesn’t jeopardize an established homestead and cause unnecessary problems. Physically, I’m 6’0 even and a solid 207 pounds more than capable of putting in my fair share of hard labor. To wrap this up, in my free-time I enjoy cooking, fishing, camping, hiking, amateur geographical mapping, and whittling. I’m pretty much a big ‘ole nerd for survivalist & DIY stuff and I dream of just being apart of a separate self-sufficient community that helps looks out for each other and holds a legitimate sense of camaraderie.[landbuddy_listing youtube=null]

Hey duckduckmeese, I am in the same boat and totally agree. I am also 21 and am equally as interested in the DIY mindset. Unfortunately, I have little to no experience in this, but I am willing to learn! I am willing to talk about your personal philosophies at almost anytime. I live near Manhattan (so I am sure you understand my plight). So if you’d like please contact me at mgs295@hotmail.com.
