Someone in one of the threads posted a lint to a website called:

    http://www.lowtechmagazine.com

I think this site deserves greater promotion. It contains a wealth of articles on the history of technology going back 2000 years. Many of the articles describe machines and methods that are quite well suited to being adapted to modern off-grid life.

What a great site, thanks Elnav for posting this link, I have had a great time going through the articles there, so far my favs are the musical instruments and keeping warm with clothing instead of heating living spaces.

Thank you for the link, Elnav. What great information. I already have about 1000 ideas. This link now lives in my bookmarks bar.

For anyone who thinks going of grid will reduce their carbon foot print this article from low tech magazine may not be such good news. It should be required reading however.

I live in a region where the utility power is 100% hydro electric generation. We shut of the natural gas so I’m reasonably sure our carbon footprint is prety small. going solar looks to be a step backwards
