That isn’t going to happen. Virtually all the people looking to go off grid are not flush with money. The few affluent people who do build an off grid home are often movie stars or other wealthy and or influential public figures who likes to make a public statement.
The monied people are still too comfortable in their present situation to be motivated to make a change. It may be for the better, but not for them as far as they can see.
Grids are collaborative or community efforts by definition. Unfortunately now that big business has seized control of them, the public feel they are simply being gouged for money to enrichen the few. This in turn has led to disenchantment and a desire to get out from under by going off grid.
The irony being going off grid is often more expensive because a small stand alone homestead is not able to take advantage of economies of scale.
