We can send a man to the moon and computer power doubles every 12 months, but what the hell happened to batteries? They just are not getting better fast enough.
What good is my multifunctional cellphone, digital camera, or iPod, if it runs out of juice after an hour? The more powerful these little devices become, the more power they consume and heat they throw off. Forget getting my thighs singed each time I use the laptop.
So lets start the Battery Project, with a huge grant from the Department of Defence and get the finest minds of our generation working on it. And meanwhile, lets improve the efficiency of all those overheating portable and mobile products, — so they at least make the most of what battery power we have left.
