Cost $110/night

A round home with a view!

Located deep in the scenic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, Ullr’s Knob Yurt offers incredible long distance views from its perch on the Continental Divide, high above the friendly little town of Lake City. Much of the trail and terrain around the yurt boasts vistas of the Weminuche Wilderness to the southwest, a panorama of five of Colorado’s famous 14,000′ peaks to west and northwest, and views of the La Garita Mountains to the east.

Easy access to the Continental Divide Trail or Colorado Trails offers miles of trail to explore this pristine, remote wilderness. As this is very near the Lake San Cristobal Yurt, there is an opportunity to go yurt to yurt. This is the more difficult to access of two yurts. The route is a strenuous one but well worth the trip and generally safe from avalanche danger.

In the winter the rental is for the entire yurt. In the summer individual bunk spaces are rented.

Location and Access

Near: Lake City, CO

Summer: 4WD vehicle, ATV, foot, mountain bike, motor cycle, or horse

The Camp Trail is for non motorized access only.  Motorized access can be gained from three locations on Highway 149 near Lake City: Spring Creek Pass, Powderhorn Gulch and Sawmill Park Road.

Winter: Winter access is by snowshoe, ski or snowmobile.  Skiers will need climbing skins.

The three trail routes are six miles and 2,000 or 2,500 feet of elevation gain with some steep sections. Route finding near and above timberline can be challenging in a whiteout.

Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult

Skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling on acres of open slopes in winter or hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, ATV or jeeping in summer along the miles of Colorado Trail can’t be passed up. The beautiful mountain landscape is rich with opportunity for:
Hiking, Skiing, Snowshoeing, Mountain biking, Trail running, Snowmobiling

Check out the  skiing immediately around the yurt. 150 vertical from a 12,050 foot nameless summit lies right out the door. The owners have affectionately named it Ullr’s Knob. Shred the slopes with lots of big mountain skiing within a quarter mile of the yurt or farther along the Continental Divide toward the Fawn Lakes Yurt site, about three miles away. Give yourself enough time here to enjoy it all!
