Bilderberg Agenda 2013

Private annual meeting of the super-powerful
Private annual meeting of the super-powerful
The Bilderberg Group (meeting in the UK currently) operated completely in secret for two decades after it was founded in 1954, bringing together the most powerful corporate bosses with leading Western politicians and bankers to advance their common agenda. A partial list of attenders is at the end of this article. It was largely a US-European cabal and had unrivalled power until the 1980s. It was managed out of the New York offices of Kroll Associates, a particularly well-connected private Detective agency.

Former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher went there to be briefed on Monetarism from its founder Milton Friedman, and introduced the policy into the UK, along with deregulation of the banks, much favored by Bilderberg’s leaders from the world’s biggest banking, insurance and manufacturing groups.

So what will they be discussing this year?

The highlight of the weekend will be Henry Kissinger’s presentation on China – a country he has known well since he began the great thaw-out during the Nixon years. No Chinese were invited however.

With the head of the IMF in the room, together with representatives of most of the top private banks, the number one issue will be preserving financial stability. It will be agreed that banks need to continue to earn super-profits in order to restore their balance sheet, by borrowing money at interest rates of 1% but lending it out at 25% to credit card holders and 7% to businesses.

Center ground politicians like UK’s Shirley WIlliams are there to tell the international business community exactly how much pain Western electors can stand before they take to the streets.

The head of Amazon, Jeff Bezos will give an indication of how fast bricks and mortar retail is being hollowed out by e-Commerce – but it is unlikely there will be a call to turn empty retail premises into homes despite the desperate shortage of affordable housing across Western cities.

The events in Turkey will be high on the list, and attendees like current Prime Minister David Cameron (and UK Chancellor George Osborne) will be meeting a large number of high-level Turks who had been invited to discuss Syria. They will be relieved to be told that the uprising in Turkey is just a little local problem caused by bad policing. The question Bilderbergers will be asking themselves is not whether events in Taksim Square are sustainable, but how they feel about having a Conservative-Islamic (but not Islamist) government at the heart of the emerging global power structure. President Erdogans friends and supporters include some of the country’s top heroin dealers. It is unlikely any of the latter are attending Bilderberg this year.
