It’s been 8 years now…

This week, we have many things to be thankful for, Christmas is fast approaching, we are healthy, there is food in the fridge and on the shelves, our bills are small and few. That last thing is very important especially right now, the job I had been working has slowed up so much to almost be non-existent, fortunately we don’t require much income to remain solvent and happy.

On Dec 22, we will begin our 8th year living off-grid. I almost can’t believe we have been so fortunate to have such a wonderful life, yet I can hardly remember our life before doing this. When we first moved out here, my earnest prayer was that I would never tire of the views, the landscapes that are ever changing, I am happy to say that 8 years later, that prayer is continually answered, I am in awe each and every time I look out upon this land, this area. Some might look out and see desolation, isolation, rough and harsh areas, and they would be absolutely right. But this area also has beauty, even in the small things, this afternoon, I was letting the dog in the gate and noticed an interesting leaf pattern on a new branch growing out of the base of an oak tree. Some of the leaves are dead, some are still green. I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots in the fading light of evening.

As this year slips into the new year, it’s a good time to reflect on how things have gone and where they are going. I do not know what the future holds, but I am thankful that we are here, living this life, living our dream. Hope your year is going well for you and yours.
