Daryl Hannah tells Abu Dhabi about going off the grid

daryl hannahThe Kill Bill star has two off-grid homes, one in Colorado and one in California. She was recently in Abu Dhabi as a guest of the world’s leading hoteliers, where she shared her philosophies on living a sustainable lifestyle.
Being green does not mean you have to cut down on opulence, Hannah said at the eco-travel event they all jetted in for: “It depends what your concept of luxury and lavish is. I consider my home incredibly comfortable and incredibly luxurious in terms of its appointments. (Being sustainable) it doesn’t mean it’s hideous.” Its not clear whether means her Colorado home, near Telluride, or her Santa Cruz home which she refers to elsewhere as a “misfit circus.”
Hannah says she does not have “19 bathrooms with gold faucets” . .(does anyone outside of the Saudi royal family?)

Daryl’s Travels

Daryl Hannah is on a world tour raising awareness of The Green Wave and the loss of biodiversity in the International Year of Biodiversity.

First holiday memory?
Going to summer camp in the Rockies where all the kids lived in covered wagons for two months. We would set up tents, dig latrines, make fires and groom and ride horses. I grew up on the 42nd storey of an apartment block in downtown Chicago, so I think camp was when I first really connected with nature.
Best hotel?
The Al Karm Ecolodge in Sinai, Egypt. The site dates back to the 13th century and is very basic. I also really liked the Hotelito Desconocido in Mexico that was completely off the grid. I like to stay in off-grid places.

Daryl Hannah reveals second off-grid home

Hollywood icon Daryl Hannah is already a poster girl for the off-grid revolution. The interview she gave www.off-grid.net in 2005 made her Colorado staging post the world’s most famous off-grid address.

Now Hannah has revealed she has a second off the grid property, this one in California.

Hannah told an obscure Santa Cruz community TV station that she lives  in a solar-powered Southern California farm she refers to as “misfit circus,” home to abandoned and disabled animals.

She arrived at the studio in her 1979 Pontiac Trans Am she drove in ‘Kill Bill.’ The actress and environmental activist appeared live with local ecologist David Blume on Community TV’s live call-in show “Eco-Review” to promote ethanol as an alternative energy source.

Here is footage of Hannah showing us round her protest tent at The Farm.
