We are fully in our monsoon season now, and it’s about time! We have had fairly dry summers for the past few seasons, in fact we haven’t had a really wet summer since the first year we moved here in ’07. I had read that this summer would be a wet year for my part of the country, and for that I am truly grateful.
It’s great, every afternoon, these popcorn clouds pop up, eventually forming a solid mass of clouds, then they drop their payload on us, rain and hail. Last week we got a good hail, I grabbed my camera and tried to document the rain and hail, I didn’t catch the really heavy stuff, but you can get the idea.
Fortunately none of the hail storms have been bad, the biggest I have seen so far is large marble size, a few just under golf ball size. I will tell you though, when you are under a metal roof, it is LOUD!
Our monsoon season lasts for a couple of months and it’s when we get the lion’s share of our yearly rainfall, one of the things PB and I have discussed lately is getting more water tanks for storage, we get enough rain in these few months (plus the random rain storms the rest of the year) to easily last us a full year, it’s just a matter of capturing the rain from the roof and treating the water, we use a Berkey Light water purifier so I’m not concerned about the water quality for drinking and cooking.
I am very thankful for the abundant rain this year, even though it makes for some interesting driving sometimes. :)
