Permaculture family looking for additional help on 12 acres

A little about what we are looking for and what we are offering. We are starting with a house that needs alot of work and 12 acres. The redesign of the house will include a greenhouse, and the existing house will have all plumbing rerouted to a greywater system in the green house. Also in the greenhouse will be a 5 extralarge worm bins, 5 275 gallon fish tanks, and many plants.

In the early spring we will build 3 cabins for overnight guests. One will be earth bag, one strawbale, one earthintegrated. These will be designed using everything I have learned and am learning on permaculture. We hope to get the first pond in yet this year as well as hugaculture beds and get a huge fall and winter crop. We will also be canning this fall.

Now we also play boardgames, and watch movies. Trips to museums if there are children. A swimming pool, cooking on the fire, sitting around outside watching a movie. Or the stars and chatting stuff like that.

None of us has any family really that we are close to. So it is only natural that we would like a large family like the waltons had. Cousins, kin, what ever the word you use we would like to find a few more members. Work is required but not money. We will be getting off grid and growing our own food within a year.

We are only human and we have our quirks. Some good some bad but were all good people. So now tell us about what you are looking for in a community? What are your goals? How do you feel about pets and animals? When are you looking to join a community?

You should be willing to help with the move from our current place to the new place. Labor only, you would get your own room, bed, furniture etc. Meals and a chance to help build a permaculture paradise. Did we mention family? No not call me Sissy or Mom but a sense of belonging and mattering. Please no preaching or people looking to save others. Your religion is your business as mine is mine. However we do celebrate Yule/ Christmas but without religous overtones. Call 620 314 7134. We are moving from Kansas to MO. We would like to find someone to join us now.

Looking to join/start community -Upstate NY-
by DUCKDUCKMEESE on JULY 24, 2014 - 1 Comment in I WANT TO GO OFF GRID

Hey, my name’s TJ and I live in Upstate NY. I’m a 21 year-old man looking to start or join an off-the-grid community/homestead with kind, honest people. I’m discouraged with the selfish, greedy state of consumerist living that unfortunately we as a society find ourselves in. I wholeheartedly believe in the DIY ethos and the reward of self-sufficiency and hard work. I’m not much of a religious person, but I have no problems with people who are- as long as they reciprocate the same respect in my beliefs as I do in theirs. I’m an avid angler with experience in many forms of fishing (rod/angling, handline fishing, net, and noodling) and have experience in horticulture. I’ve been composting and growing veggies for over 10 years, with confidence in helping to sow larger scale gardens. I have the utmost respect for nature and animals, only ever hunting twice in my life strictly for sustenance and never for sport. Raising livestock for food and resources is more humane than the torment animals go through in factory farms, so I’m down to raise/care for animals. I have some minor skills in carpentry, more-so in wood crafting than large-scale building. I’m a very open-minded person however I have no tolerance for racism, xenophobia, sexism, or any form of bigotry. I’m not a druggie and never was much of a drinker, but I’m okay with both to an extent; the extent being as long as it doesn’t jeopardize an established homestead and cause unnecessary problems. Physically, I’m 6’0 even and a solid 207 pounds more than capable of putting in my fair share of hard labor. To wrap this up, in my free-time I enjoy cooking, fishing, camping, hiking, amateur geographical mapping, and whittling. I’m pretty much a big ‘ole nerd for survivalist & DIY stuff and I dream of just being apart of a separate self-sufficient community that helps looks out for each other and holds a legitimate sense of camaraderie.

I Need To Leave
by SHEPPIE on JULY 17, 2014 - 20 Comments in I WANT TO GO OFF GRID

Hi, my name’s Aaron, I’m 22 and I’m a guy.
I’ve lived in Maryland my entire life and I need to leave. I need to live somewhere where I can do things that actually matter. Like grow/harvest food, maintain a place to live, supply my own water, and connect with people who just want to live life for what it is. I can’t put up with this backwards “economy” and doing/buying things that just don’t matter or aid to help me progress as a human. I know there’s so much more to living than to make money, owe money, and give all that money to corporations. I want to connect with people on a real level. I’d like to one day get out of America.
SO what I’d like to is to join a community, or even start a community with a bunch of people, but a community that’s “modern.” But I’m willing to think about any offer that someone shows me. And I’ll move anywhere that’s possible for me to reach. I just really want to leave this mundane lifestyle.

Decision made, Time to move on
by CHAMP on JULY 8, 2014 - 4 Comments in I WANT TO GO OFF GRID

My name`s Mitch. I am 21 I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, but its time to move on. School isn’t right for me now and I’ve always had a passion for the outdoors. I’m ready and want to prove to myself. I’m strong enough to escape from this easy lifestyle and challenge myself. I`m looking for somewhere to live and someone who can teach me how to become a survivalist. I’m very athletic and have been playing sports my while life, sports are one of my passions. I also love problem solving, and have an iq to match that. I know that I’ll be a great addition to any community for a long time and will be able to prove my worth over any lacking survivalist skill. Sweating in the mid day heat over hard manual labor is the stuff I love gritting teeth and all. It’s time to move on, I’m ready for the challenge.

Need some help and somewhere to go.
by SURVIVOR on JULY 2, 2014 - 10 Comments in I WANT TO GO OFF GRID

I’m only 15 but i’m a survivalist and I wish to live off the grid by any means necessary. I can hunt, fish, forage, I am an artist and I have many talents in many different fields. I’m a hard worker and will do about anything. I need somewhere to stay, somewhere to call home, but I have no where. So please, could someone help me out here?

Seeking North Carolina

I’m a 40 year old female and I’m greatly considering to live off grid preferably around Asheville area for I find it beautiful and I’m part Cherokee, but I am open to other areas. I’m seeking either a community to join with or to neighbor by with like minded people. I’d like to own my own land to build and live on. I want a wooded area with hills or mountains and a patch of sun to grow an organic garden and land without building restrictions… at least free to build a cabin or straw house etc.
I am seeking to do this rather immediately or during spring time.
I’m looking for people who are free spirits, no drama makers, peaceful happy people, and preferably in the healing field ( like reiki etc) for I am. And gay friendly people. And I will make it note worthy that I am absolutely intolerable to men and women invading my space. ” NO means NO”. And I prefer people who are not hunters.
So if anyone is interested or knows of an ideal area to give me leads on please contact me and lets discuss! Also if anyone can lead me to a website with cheap land in the area. thanks!

looking at going off-grid in British Columbia
by CHRIS CANNON on JULY 2, 2014 - 1 Comment in I WANT TO GO OFF GRID

Vancouver writer looking to learn everything i can about off-grid living for some magazine and tv work i am doing, but also out of curiosity and a desire to be part of a sustainable community. I prefer the witty, kind, and sane over the dull, angry, and loopy. Please move on if you respect the Kardashians or make your dog wear goggles.

At this point, i am just trying to scout out the local, off-grid community and see what i can learn. Possible move in the future — interior, the sunshine coast, or on one of the islands perhaps.
