Ex-Vice President Al Gore, who did precisely nothing for the environment during his eight years in power, has unveiled plans for another ego-stroking exercise in climate change politics.

His Climate Reality project announced it would kick off with a 24-hour live streamed event on 14 September. The day’s schedule will include a new multimedia presentation by Gore, who unbelievably won an Oscar for his Inconvenient Truth slide show.

Jersusalem takes Broadway

New off-grid role model

As predicted here a year ago, the play Jerusalem was a smash hit when it opened on New York’s Broadway last week.

Jerusalem features a grubby guy, Johnny Rooster,  who lives off the grid,in a trailer on a patch of suburban wasteland near a public housing project.

He is a magnet for the local disaffected youth, and inspires them with his vision of freedom, and commitment to ideals they have been starved of all their lives.  The rest of the community hate him and set about trying to get rid of him – a suitable metaphor for the off-grid movement in general.
Actor Mark Rylance who plays Rooster said that during the first half of the play New York audiences are “laughing at these funny, eccentric British people, and gradually over the course of the evening they realise this is a play about any of us – possibly about all of us in terms of what is coming in the years ahead.
“I think the governments and corporations are trying to get everyone on the logistics….and it isn’t satisfying…its not what life is about.” (more…)

Ah, the irony. In San Andreas, CA, atop a possible earthquake of cataclysmic proportions, the town is adopting the latest distributed power generation technologies.

Someday soon, fuels from forests in this area south-east of Sacramento may power water plants, schools and even private businesses.

Bob Dean, a member of the board of directors of the Calaveras County Water District, has proposed portable cogeneration plants to both generate electricity and allow for more efficient use of wood-chip waste generated as local forests are thinned. (more…)

Preppers in Utah return to the Gold standard
by VEG-HEAD on MARCH 23, 2011 - 1 Comment in EVENTS

Teach a man to fish and you ....

Utah is in the midst of a gold rush of sorts, a scramble ignited by soaring precious metal prices as well as fear the Federal Reserve’s policy of low interest rates and aggressive money supply growth will trigger inflation that in turn will doom the dollar and wipe out savings.

Such concern led Rep. Brad Galvez, R-West Haven, to successfully sponsor HB317 in the Legislature. The bill, which awaits Gov. Gary Herbert’s signature, would require the state to recognize gold and silver coins issued by the federal government as legal tender. (more…)
