ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) — An underground missile silo is currently one of New Mexico’s hottest real estate properties.
More than 40 people, some from out of state, have called about buying the silo near Roswell, real estate agent Jim Moore said Friday.
“This one of the few missile silos for sale in the United States,” Moore said. “It’s one of the more unusual listings that I’ve come across.”
According to KOB-TV (https://bit.ly/16fIPSr ), the silo is on the market for $295,000. The deal includes 25 acres of surrounding land and 280 acres of water rights.

The silo, which is about 20 miles outside of Roswell, used to house an Atlas missile.
“When we were stationed out here, and I was stationed in charge of the security detachment, we had radios, etc.,” said Tom Edgett, who lived in the silo as a guard in the 1960s. “But right now if you got stuck down here, there is no telephone communication; there’s no Wi-Fi.”
The area where the missile was stored stretches 10 stories underground. The structure includes a kitchen, bathroom and several tunnels.
“I don’t think even a direct bomb blast would affect the super structure,” Edgett said.
By the 1980s, the silo had become a hangout among teenagers who marked the building with graffiti, Moore said.
Moore says the previous owner, Jerome Dinkevitz, had been living in a nursing home until his death two months ago. Dinkevitz bought the home in the early 1990s and ran a water business.
Several inquiries have come from people interested in living off the grid, Moore said.
“People that are thinking that the world is going to come to an end anytime. They want to be in a safe place, so they’d like to be in a place like this,” Moore said.
