Profs warn world will go off-grid

A pair of academics have warned that brownouts will take place with increasing severity around the world, as demand for electricity for gadgets soars amid inadequate investment.

Soaring demand for air-conditioning, iPads and increasingly electric cars, combined with a growing population and inadequate investment in creaking power networks, is pushing the world towards frequent blackouts, the academics warn in a paper published last week.

The authors, Hugh Byrd of Lincoln University in the UK and Steve Matthewman of Auckland University in New Zealand, argue that the west needs to abandon the idea of uninterrupted electricity supply.

EU to ban heirloom seeds and criminalize unregistered gardens

registered-seeds

(Truthstream Media.com)

If the global domination is allowed to take root, biotech and Big Agra will control the world food supply, at the expense of personal liberty.

Because independence is the greatest of all crimes under the emerging global government, which essentially works to protect the dominance established by the biggest of corporations, who participate, in turn, as de facto members of the ruling oligarchy – and in baby steps through the EU, and emerging North American Union, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, et al.

Living inside the box

04 This absolutely falls under the “How cool is that!” category… I have seen lots of sheds, workshops and homes made out of shipping containers, some are buried in the ground, most just sit on the ground, some people are creative with them and create an entire home out of multiple containers. Most can be found in rural areas of the USA…

This has to the the most interesting one I have seen to date. These folks owned a small (read TINY) lot in NY, after lots of work and convincing, they created their home with several of these containers stacked up, it’s modern looking, it’s sleek, it’s clean and it works!

Living off-grid interview

03I watched this video just a few days ago, it shows how someone can live off-grid without living in a primitive manner, of course this takes money, it’s a tradeoff, it’s possible to go off-grid on the cheap, my hubby and I are proof that this possible. But if you do have some money to invest, you can live every bit as “normal” as anyone else who lives on grid.

Roscoe Bartlett – a study in self-sufficiency

Writer Jason Koebler went to visit the Off-Grid Congressman – 87-year-old Roscoe Bartlett — for Politico magazine, and the result is a charming portrait of a very dedicated pubic servant who is spending his final years practising what he preaches.

According to Bartlett, a terrorist with a “$100,000 Scud launcher and any crude nuclear weapon” could detonate a bomb above the atmosphere and knock out America’s power grid for more than a year.

This Is What Happens When A Woman Gets Sick Of Divorce And Mortgages. And It’s Brilliant.

Macy Miller is an architect from Idaho that had a BIG dream about a tiny house. Stay warm in the freeze

Unless you reacted instantly to our piece last week on cheap fleeces, you’ll be looking around for ideas on coping with the cold air mass from the north which will chill two-thirds of the U.S. Sunday through Tuesday.

Staying warm when you are off the grid can be doubly important if you cannot even leave home and are far from supplies of food or fuel. Even if you your home is like a chiller, you may be able to create a warm room.

Ensure that there is adequate insulation, and check and clean the fireplace and furnace. Furnace filters should be replaced monthly.

Old fire rescue truck conversion into an RV

Some guy bought an old fire rescue truck. What he turned it into is pure awesomeness.

This Reddit user’s dad did something with a hunk of junk that quite possibly made him the coolest person on the planet. He decided to buy an old fire rescue truck that was formerly used by German fire departments and tinker with it. However, he wasn’t interested in restoring the vehicle or keeping it as a collector’s item… instead, he did something much cooler with it.
