I agree with the idea of preparing for the worst-case scenario (SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, etc). My concern would be that you have to have a rural (agrarian-based) retreat to survive. Cities and suburbs will be utter hell when the grid goes down. Supporting a long-term sustainable life is the challenge. A horde of water, canned goods, and nappies does not define "sustainable". Hopefully it will allow the "survivor" enough time to transition to a sustainable lifestyle and that is worth a lot. Good luck to us all.

Use your head, guys! What do we need to survive? Food, water, shelter. Use the camping supplies already have. If you don't have them yet, buy them and learn to use them. You don't really need any high dollar "survival foods." Check your local grocery store or Wal Mart for canned or dried foods. Buy two, use one, when it comes to toilet tissue, toothpaste, etc. In one month, you will have an extra one month supply. In one year, you'll have a year's supply. You can stockpile food and supplies very easily this way!

Lets all follow the advice of veg-head. time to take cover, buy a shed, stock up on tins.

What a load of nonsense

Back to basics...veg-head should just switch his/her shopping habits from the hippy corner shop to Tesco, try their basics range. I hear that its good value.

Long live the multi-national!
